Cory Crose
I have a profound preoccupation with nostalgia, memory, and the hint of a magical world weaving its threads throughout the fabric of the otherwise mundane. My work seeks to explore not just the beauty of the natural world, but connect it with the magic of folklore seen through the lens of my own personal experience; how those stories persist into our modern perception of the world, and meld with my own interpretation and personal iconography.
My works, whether flat or sculptural, generally have one foot rooted firmly within the natural world, and the other a winking smirk in Faery tales. What stories, both told and untold, hide beneath the surface of our sight?
Cory Crose was born and raised in the Hudson Valley, leaving for a few years to pursue an education in Illustration and obtaining a degree in Drawing & Painting. She has always had a love of the arts and a need to create, so on her return to the area she became a volunteer in the ceramic arts community and an assistant to local artist and woodworker Jeff Johnson. Having now moved to the "other side of the river" and settled into her home with husband and fellow artist Les Castellanos, Cory continues to explore new mediums, weaving them together along with her love of nature, folklore, and one's own personal mythos.
